Back to School

Classes for the Fall semester have started at CPCC, and so far it's been an enjoyable week of meeting students and getting them acquainted with the requirements of my classes. Pretty soon I'll be starting a marathon of paper grading, so I'm trying to soak up the "calm before the storm."

Erica is doing great, and today is at the 33 week benchmark. Jonah's getting noticeably large; when he moves, it tends to make E uncomfortable because of the lack of room, and it looks like his head (or maybe his rear end? or some other protuberance?) is stuck on one side of her abdomen. It's extraordinarily cool--and, in many ways, extraordinarily creepy--to see him wiggle around. The nursery is pretty much finished, and he's got enough clothes to last 'til he's at least two years old.

I still have to buy him a "Barf Vader" t-shirt, though. It's a necessity.

Free Pizza (Make That Three Free Pizzas)

Donatos was giving out free pizza today. All you had to do was show-up at any one of their convenient locations and show that you have their phone number stored in your mobile device. Apparently the word was spread fairly quickly, as there was a sizable line waiting to get inside. Still, I braved the heat and left with a medium cheese pizza for no cost.

Erica had to one-up me, though. On the way home, she visited three different Donatos (yes, she walked away with three free pizzas). She was quite proud of herself.

Here's some other exciting news: I've been hired on as a full-time instructor at CPCC! This is a huge blessing for our family, and I'm excited about beginning my career with a college that seems to really respect and appreciate its teachers.

The missus has another doctor appointment this coming Thursday, so I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on Jonah's progress. In 8 weeks (or thereabouts), our son will be entering the world.

The Water's Fine

Rain Drenching the Shoreline

Sting Rays Under the Surf City Pier
(They're kind of hard to see: look for the small gray discs in the middle of the picture)

Here are some pictures from the beach trip Erica and I made this past week. We were in Surf City, and the weather was great (though the first day was overcast and generally uncooperative); I also had just enough time to go offshore fishing with my dad and new brother-in-law. The only thing we caught was a two-foot long sand shark, but being on the water was relaxing.

I've got oodles of things to share in the coming days: for now, though, I'm going to enjoy this thunderstorm that's starting to bulldoze the Charlotte area.

And, you know, I don't want to get fried by lightning while writing a blog.

Oh, I almost forgot: happy birthday to Al Cousen! I think he's like 84, or so.
